Welcome to U.S. History
In this course, students will engage with U.S. government as an active, participatory process rather than just a static set of laws or ideologies. The course explores how governance encompasses not only legislation and administration but also the continuous actions and interactions of individuals and communities.
By the end of the course, you will gain the following:
- A deep understanding of the philosophical and historical foundations of the U.S. government, including the evolution from early governance structures to the establishment and ratification of the Constitution.
- Detailed knowledge of the federal government's structure, exploring the distinct roles and powers of the legislative, executive, and judicial branches, as well as state, local, and tribal governments.
- Knowledge about the rights and responsibilities associated with American citizenship, and the ability to engage critically with political and civic processes, understanding the impact of political parties, interest groups, and the media on the democratic system.
- The ability to critically evaluate and discuss various aspects of government and policy through the study of domestic and foreign policymaking processes.
